Loans

There are many different types of student loans available to students, including loan programs for parents of college students. Most loans are available through the federal government and a student must submit a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form to determine eligibility.

Federal Loans

Federal Direct Loan

There are two types of Federal Direct Loans, subsidized and unsubsidized. 

Eligibility for each type depends on financial need. If you are awarded a Federal Direct Loan, you must complete Entrance Counseling and a Master Promissory Note (MPN) at www.studentloans.gov.

Federal Direct PLUS Loans for Parents

Direct PLUS Loan is a federal loan for parents of college students. Parents must complete the Parent PLUS application process and credit check at www.studentloans.gov to determine if they are eligible. The credit check is only valid for 90 days.

University of the Cumberlands partners with Great Lakes Educational Loan Services to help students and their families understand private lending and select the plan that best fits their needs. University of the Cumberlands is prohibited from recommending any of the lenders listed. Proceed to FASTChoice.
