Online Counseling Programs

Mission

The mission of University of the Cumberlands’ School of Counseling (UCSC) is to provide a superior educational experience that coaches passionate students to become mental health counselors, addiction counselors and counseling leaders distinguished by sound ethical values with a heart for humanity who can change the world one life at a time.

Vision

UC’s CACREP accredited degree programs prepare professionals who are committed to the integrity of the individual, client-centered counseling, diversity, social change and academic excellence. Our faculty distinguish themselves in areas of research, scholarship, professional integrity and evidence-based practice as well as local and international collaborations. They are dedicated to impacting our profession to effect positive change in our communities.

The department’s faculty, students and alumni are actively engaged in connecting families and communities; serving the community’s needs through our work in schools, organizations and centers within the community; and designing and delivering specialized training to professionals and families in surrounding communities.

Programs

Our CACREP accredited graduate and doctoral degree programs in the field of counseling prepare counseling professionals who are compassionate, reflective, proactive and effective change agents for the promotion of greater human understanding, dignity and positive relationships. The fully accredited online counseling programs at University of the Cumberlands offers tracks of study in several areas of the field.

Through our Master of Arts in Professional Counseling (MAPC), University of the Cumberlands offers a graduate program for those students aspiring to become professional counselors. The program is designed to serve both recent baccalaureate graduates and other professionals who desire to broaden their expertise as mental health counselors in community settings. We offer two tracks within the MAPC program which are both accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs (CACREP). These tracks include Online Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Online Master’s in Addiction Counseling. The aim of the CMHC program is to provide students with the academic background and requirements that enable one to become a fully licensed professional counselor, while the AC program enables one to become a licensed professional counselor as well as a licensed addiction counselor (see your local state requirements).

Our CACREP accredited Counselor Education and Supervision programs are innovatively designed to prepare ethically sound and advocacy-driven counselor educators, administrators, supervisors, researchers, clinicians and leaders to serve humanity through academic and clinical excellence. You may choose either the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership track which consists of a 60-hour program; or you may select the Ph.D. in Leadership track consisting of 66 credit hours. Attainment of either the Ph.D. or the Ed.D. degree in educational leadership with a specialization in counselor education and supervision is among the most respected accomplishments in the field of counseling.
