Through our Master of Arts in Professional Counseling (MAPC), University of the Cumberlands offers a graduate program for those students aspiring to become professional counselors. The program is designed to serve both recent baccalaureate graduates and other professionals who desire to broaden their expertise as mental health counselors in community settings. We offer two tracks within the MAPC program which are both accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs (CACREP). These tracks include Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) and Addiction Counseling (AC). The aim of the CMHC program is to provide students with the academic background and requirements that enable one to become a fully licensed professional counselor, while the AC program enables one to become a licensed professional counselor as well as a licensed addiction counselor (see your local state requirements).
Our CACREP accredited Counselor Education and Supervision programs are innovatively designed to prepare ethically sound and advocacy-driven counselor educators, administrators, supervisors, researchers, clinicians and leaders to serve humanity through academic and clinical excellence. You may choose either the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership track which consists of a 60-hour program; or you may select the Ph.D. in Leadership track consisting of 66 credit hours. Attainment of either the Ph.D. or the Ed.D. degree in educational leadership with a specialization in counselor education and supervision is among the most respected accomplishments in the field of counseling.
