Our online Master's degree in Education program gives licensed educators the opportunity to further develop knowledge, skills, and dispositions in order to enhance teaching outcomes within a previously earned certification area.

The MA.Ed. degree program offers several study options and the convenience and flexibility of online coursework.
Important Notice
Pursuant to 16 Kentucky Administrative Regulation 5:010 Section 12, no new candidates will be admitted to the Elementary, Middle, or Secondary MAED programs after December 31, 2010. Please note that this does not apply to the following MAED programs: Instructional Leadership – Principal, School Counselor, and Reading and Writing (P-12). Students enrolled in one of the sunsetting MAED programs must complete the program before January 31, 2013. A new MAED Teacher Leader program, which will replace the sunsetting MAED programs, has been submitted by the Education Department at University of the Cumberlands and approved by the Kentucky Educational Professional Standards Board. New applicants may enroll in the MAED Teacher Leader program.
The current MAED Instructional Leadership – Principal program will sunset on December 31, 2011. A redesigned program for Principal licensure is being developed by the Education Department at this time. Those candidates admitted to the existing program must complete it by January 31, 2014.
Length of Study
Students wanting to earn their online Master's degree in education should learn about our MAED Instructional Leadership program, which can be completed in as little as 10 months. However, it is designed to provide convenience and flexibility, allowing you to study at a pace that meets your needs.

The MA. Ed. programs do not lead to initial teaching licensure, but can provide additional certification in the following areas: Instructional Leadership – Principalship, Reading & Writing, School Counseling, and Teacher as Leader.

MA. Ed programs consist of 30 credit hours with exception of the School Counseling program, which requires completion of 48 credit hours. All coursework is delivered online. A maximum of 9 credit hours may be transferred into the program.
