Read Biography

A native of Laurel County, Kentucky, Dr. Cailen Wattenbarger Baker has ten years of experience in a variety of healthcare settings including acute care, leadership, nursing education, and academia. She has served in roles such as bedside Critical Care nursing, Administrator, Clinical Educator, and Nursing Clinical Faculty.   Dr. Baker began her career as an Associate degree nurse and has since completed all four levels of nursing education, all from Eastern Kentucky University, with her most recent achievement being the degree of Doctor of Nursing Practice in May of 2013.  Dr. Baker resides in Kentucky with her husband and young daughter.

Dr. Claudia Mitchell has more than 20 years experience in a variety of healthcare settings including acute care, mental health, long term care, home health and academe. She has served in a number of leadership positions including Director of Nursing, Director of Education , Consultant, and most recently served as the Executive Director of Undergraduate Programs at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing. She specializes in nursing education and leadership and has taught at the BSN, RN to BSN, MSN, and DNP levels. Dr. Mitchell has published and presented regionally, nationally and internationally in the area of nursing education.

Dr. Roberts has served in a variety of nursing roles including adult health nursing, nurse educator, and most currently is the Shared Governance and NDNQI Coordinator at a regional Kentucky Hospital. With an interest in patient and family centered care, her doctoral capstone focused on implementing a caring model to improve patient experience and quality outcomes. She has a passion for promoting professional development in nurses and assisting them to meet their full potentials in their areas of interest. Dr. Roberts enjoys professional writing, cooking, working with plants and flowers, and most of all spending time with her family. She lives in Somerset with her husband and two young sons.

Yalanda Scalf, MSN, RN attended Alice Lloyd College, where she received her Bachelors of Science in Biology (1996).  She received her BSN degree (1999) from Eastern Kentucky University, where she returned to receive her MSN (2008), with a concentration in Public Health / Nursing Education.  Yalanda is currently working on her capstone for the DNP at EKU.  Yalanda began her nursing career working briefly in a rural after-hours clinic in Hazard, Kentucky.  She moved to the hospital setting at Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester, Kentucky working in obstetrics, intensive care, and emergency nursing.  After 3 years, Yalanda began working in the speciality of cardiaovascular nursing at St. Joseph London (formerly Marymount Medical Center) in London, Kentucky.  After obtaining her MSN, Yalanda made the switch to nursing education by becoming a full-time tenured track faculty member at EKU in the Associate Degree Nursing Department.  She enjoyed 5 years of her time at EKU teaching cardiac and gastrointestinal disease processes.  Yalanda also has experience in administration previously being House Manager at Marymount Medical Center and Director of Clinical Staff at WirelessDx, a cardiac telemonitoring company.  Due to a further move from EKU, most recently, Yalanda decided to delve back into administration, being House Manager at St. Joesph London.   She also continues in nursing education as part-time faculty for the RN-to-BSN program at University of Cumberlands and part-time clinical instructor for the BSN program at EKU.

Read Biography

Rebecca is a native of Knox County, Kentucky.  She is an alumna of University of the Cumberlands, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.  She subsequently went on to complete associate, bachelor, and master of science degrees from Eastern Kentucky University.  She has worked in many nursing roles, such as; critical care nursing, education, and informatics.  She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.  Rebecca currently practices at a local federally qualified healthcare center in the town in which she lives. Rebecca and her husband, Jeff, continue to reside in Knox County, Kentucky.
