Course Descriptions

HESOL 233. Functional Human Anatomy and Physiology
This course will provide foundational understanding of structure and function for anatomical terminology, tissues, integumentary, skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems and their interrelationship related to the area of health and performance. Credit, 3 hours.

HESOL 333. Nutrition
This course is designed to study the impact of nutrition on health and human performance by addressing contemporary issues of nutritional needs throughout the life span and dietary diversity that can include cultural, ethical, and religious preferences. Credit, 3 hours.

HESOL 430. Substance Abuse
This course provides an overview of core concepts regarding legal and illegal substances from societal influence and impact to the etiology of drug abuse, addiction, prevention, and treatment. Credit, 3 hours.

HEOL 130. Foundations of Health Science
This course overviews key approaches and patterns to health and disease along with examining a range of careers, responsibilities, and competencies in the study and practice of health education and public health. Credit, 3 hours.

HEOL 335. Introduction to the Study of Disease
A study of the clinical aspects of disease in relationship to pathology geared toward determining the biological, physical or chemical variables in regard to disease development. Credit, 3 hours.

HEOL 336. Epidemiology
The study of the nature, cause, control and determinants of the frequency and distribution of disease, disability and death in human populations. Emphasis on: agents, hosts and environment. Prerequisite: HLTH 130. Credit, 3 hours.

HEOL 431. Public Health Administration
A study of the financial and personnel management concepts and practices applied to health programs. Fundamentals of budgeting, public health laws, cost-containment, grant writing, marketing and leadership qualities are addressed. Credit, 3 hours.

HEOL 432. Community and Environmental Health
This course will investigate how the environment can influence our health by exploring the repercussions of population expansion, natural disasters and/or bioterrorism, natural resources, pollution, and economics. Credit, 3 hours.
