Degree Requirements - Associate of Science Degree in Psychology

As part of University of the Cumberlands' Associates’s degree requirements, each student must complete at least 61 semester hours, including those within the major and the coursework required to fulfill the degree requirements.

A total of 31 semester hours are required in the sections of General Education listed below:

  • The English Language
  • Christian Faith and Values
  • Natural and Mathematical Sciences
  • Cultural and Aesthetic Values
  • Humanities
  • Social Sciences


An additional 30 semester hours of coursework is required to fulfill the Associate of Science degree in Psychology earned through the sections of core requirements as well as elective courses:

Associate Core Requirements – 18 Hours

PSYOL 131 Basic Psychology
PSYOL 232 Psychology and Human Development
PSYOL 234 Research Design and Statistics I
PSYOL 237 Introduction to Counseling
PSYOL 334 Social Psychology
PSYOL 333 Psychology of Personality

Elective courses (12 hours) - You may choose any of the courses that are offered within the School of Lifelong Learning. If a course has a pre-requisite, as long as you meet the requirements, and have not previously taken it, you can take the class. Your elective choices are vast and not limited to your degree.

A minimum grade of "C" is required for all courses in the major.
