Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology
The focus of the Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology program is to train graduates for the general, integrative practice of clinical psychology with diverse populations, especially those that are traditionally underserved. The program also seeks to prepare students from underserved groups to become psychologists who reinvest by serving as clinical leaders in their local communities. Coursework and professional experiences have been designed to meet ASPPB (Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards) guidelines for clinical psychology program designation. Although the program does NOT currently have ASPPB designation, it is actively seeking this status.
The Ph.D. curriculum develops a solid foundation of core knowledge and assessment, intervention, and research skills by means of a structured sequence of classes and experiences. As students’ progress through the curriculum, they are systematically exposed to more applied, broad-based, and sophisticated course content. The curriculum is designed to meet licensure requirements in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and other states, as applicable.
*Note: Although the University of the Cumberlands Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology is designed to meet APA guidelines and Kentucky state licensure requirements , it is the licensing board of each state that determines eligibility for and granting of licensure. Regarding APA, although the program is designed to meet APA guidelines; we are not currently APA accredited. The University may seek APA accreditation in the future but cannot guarantee APA accreditation at this point.
University of the Cumberlands is proud to set the benchmark for doctoral education in clinical psychology that points the way to preserve Christian values, ensure humane and altruistic mental health care, instill reverence for life and the richness of the human spirit, and teach strict adherence to the legal rights, duties and responsibilities of this emerging profession.
