Degree Requirements

The program of study consists of 30 hours (10 courses) of graduate work divided as follows:

  1. Every student in our religious studies graduate programs takes the six core courses of the program. The core courses are courses required by almost every seminary in the United States and form the basis for effective, biblically based Christian ministry. Those courses are:
MMOL 531 Old Testament Survey I
MMOL 532 Old Testament Survey II
MMOL 533 New Testament Survey I
MMOL 534 New Testament Survey II
    MMOL 535 Christian Theology I
    MMOL 536 Christian Theology II
  2. The core courses do not have to be taken in the above sequence. As an example, Old Testament Survey II can be taken before Old Testament Survey I. Students can also take advanced courses before completing all core courses.

  3. Every student can choose from six tracks of concentration:
    Biblical Studies
    Christian Education
    Church Planting
    Youth Ministry
    Pastoral Ministry

The student then takes two courses in the chosen track.

  4. Every student also takes two elective courses of their choice.

Transfer Credit
A maximum of nine (9) hours of graduate credit may be transferred from an accredited institution of higher learning and applied to a Master's program provided such credit meets the appropriate degree requirements of the University of the Cumberlands. All transfer credit must be approved prior to enrollment by the Registrar and Program Director.

Academic Status
The following standards will determine a student’s academic status:

  1. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 to complete the program successfully. Students may have a maximum of two grades (six credit hours) of “C” on their transcript that count toward the degree. Students may retake a course once to raise a “C” grade.
  2. A student whose GPA drops below 3.0 will be placed on academic probation. The student then has two semesters to improve the GPA to a 3.0 or higher. If the student fails to do so, the student will normally not be allowed to continue in the program.
  3. A student must pass a course that is a prerequisite for another course with a “B” or better before taking the following course.
