Master's in Cyber Engineering

Combining multiple technical disciplines, the online Master of Science in Cyber Engineering at University of the Cumberlands gives you the skills and insights that will help you get ahead in the job market. In this program, you will analyze and solve complex computing problems, protect critical infrastructures, and maintain secure operations amid the age of ever-increasing cyber risks. With UC’s flexible learning path, you can balance work and study, allowing you to focus on becoming the best in your field while interacting with expert instructors who will help you find success. 

Curriculum for this accredited online cyber security program dives into principles of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Computer Science. You’ll complete a total of 31 credit hours comprised of 8-week or 16-week courses, such as Cyber Engineering and the Network, Cyber Engineering Access Control, Robotics System Engineering and Artificial Intelligence.  

Upon graduation, you’ll be able to: 

  • Understand the role policy plays in engineering secure systems 
  • Examine the role assurance plays in security and in the development, design and deployment of software and hardware products 
  • Evaluate trusted systems and turn designs into secure systems 
  • Provide solutions to secure networks and protect infrastructures from cyber threats

Under this admissions pathway, an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, computer science, cyber or software engineering or similar program approved by the MSCE Program Director is required. 
Admission on this path mean the student starts in the 8-week bi-term program with one or two courses per bi-term. To gain admittance on this path entails an earned degree named above or another degree with the following course profile. 

Math: 

  • Calculus 1 & Calculus 2
    or 
  • Calculus 1 & Probability and Statistics

And at least 3 of the following IT or Sciences: 

  • Foundations of Engineering/Software Development/Computer Science
  • Physics 1 or higher and lab
  • Computer Systems or Software Design
  • Electronics/Electromagnetic Fields/Circuit Design
  • Object Oriented Programming/Design
  • Systems Design/Systems Architecture
  • Cyber Security/Cyber Defense

This path allows for students without an engineering background, but who have IT degrees (either undergraduate or graduate) to be successful in the program. Students take 16-week courses for their first two main-term semesters to build a foundation for advanced coursework in Cyber Engineering. The 16-week format allows the program to implement additional learning modules and remediation to provide students a minimal level of the background knowledge and skills needed for this program. 

  • The program assumes the student has at least college algebra or higher in their undergraduate studies.

Each course lasts eight weeks, called a bi-term. There are two bi-terms per semester, and three semesters per year (fall, spring, and summer). Classes in the MACS program are asynchronous, meaning there is no set login time; you can work on schoolwork whenever you find time.
